The most important information for spectators

When and where will you be able to see the World’s best orienteers? Experience the EGK O World Cup Final in Grindelwald first hand as a spectator and support the runners in the finish areas.

Start lists, results, pictures and further information for spectators will be made available on this website on all competition days.
Furthermore : In case you cannot travel to Grindelwald, you can follow the competitions on Saturday and Sunday live on Swiss National TV. SRF2 will be broadcasting live as from 12.15 (Saturday) and 14.15 (Sunday).

The opening of the EGK O World Cup Final is marked by a Long Distance competition held in the area of «Nodhalten» - in the direction of Grindelwald First. The finish area is situated on approximately 1300 metres above sea level, next to the Alpine Hotel Bort, where also the lower intermediate station oft he First-Grindelwald cable car is located.

In the finish area, spectators will be able to witness the approximately 200 athletes run into the finish. The happenings will be commentated by an arena speaker. Spectators will be able to follow the runners by GPS. Athletes will appreciate spectators’ cheering with hand fans available in the finish area, creating a great atmosphere for their run-in after a long and challenging course.

Estimated winning times in the Long Distance are approximately 90 minutes for the men and 70 minutes for the women. The athletes start individually, the best ones at the end.

The last individual race of the Orienteering World Cup 2017 is a Middle Distance of about 35min running time. The race will be held on the last day of September in the area of «Grindelwald Dirrenberg».

The finish area of the World Cup race is situated on the Eigerplatz, a square in the village centre, only a few steps away from the train station. Entry to the finish area is free. Runners will be followed up both by cameras in the terrain and GPS-tracking shown on a big screen in the finish area. That way, spectators will be able to follow the whole World Cup Final live in the arena.
Food and beverages will be available to buy there as well.

To sum up the weekend with, a Sprint Relay will take place on Sunday. A Sprint Relay consists of teams of 4, 2 women and 2 men. All teams start at the same time, however, the different predefined sequences of controls require individual map reading. Each runner executes a leg of about 15min. The major part of the competition will be held in the centre of Grindelwald.
